Infections
Many infections may produce changes in the skin, but biopsy diagnosis of infection is only really helpful in a few specific areas. Tinea corporis is common in our community and can be surprisingly difficult to diagnose without biopsy confirmation. One of the passages of childhood is the development of molluscum contagiosum, probably picked up from a friend at nursery or school. When typical these lesions will resolve in due course of time, but sometimes lesions are atypical, and a biopsy is needed to make the diagnosis.
